Oropal, 100 years of history
After a century, we can say that Oropal is not just paint. Since 1923, the brand has grown to offer a complete range of products and colours for industry and decoration.
How has this been possible?
With the personal effort of Franco Hermanos’s team, together with the impetus provided by Irurena Group and a constant effort to improve day by day in order to develop paints that meet the most demanding needs and demands of the customer.
What is the history of Oropal?
On 24th July 1923, Mr. José Antonio and Mr. Juan Bautista Franco Isasa set up the FRANCO HNOS trading company. Their purpose wat to manufacture and sell colonial and drugstore articles, starting with a share capital of 60,000 pesetas and a office in San Sebastian.
On 24th July 1930, the share capital was increased to 167,583 pesetas and Mr. Ramón and Mr. Rafael Franco Isasa joined the company.
On 8th January 1943, the manufacture of paint is expanded to another location in San Sebastián.
On 15th January 1947, it was decided to create a separate company for each business and two different companies were created: Franco Hnos Coloniales S.R.C. and Franco Hnos Drogas S.R.C. The owners of the first being Mr. Juan Bautista and Mr. Ramón Franco Isasa and of the second one Mr. José Antonio and Don Rafael Franco Isasa.
At the same time, on that date Franco Hnos Drogas S.R.C., whose initial share capital was 1,200,000 pesetas, acquired a 2,500 m2 plot of land, located in San Sebastián. This is where OROPAL comes to life.
- On 23rd January 1951 the company moved their offices and manufacturing site.
- On 8th May 1980, Franco Hnos Drogas S.R.C. was transformed into Franco Hnos. S.A.
- On 3rd October 1986, a 4,710 m2 plot of land was acquired in Urnieta.
- On 9th March 1987, all the company to Urnieta.
- On the 1st of April 2015 the brand was acquired by the Irurena Group, which continues with the work and enthusiasm of keeping alive the dream that the founding brothers Mr. José Antonio and Mr. Juan Bautista Franco Isasa had at the beginning of the 20th century.
