The validity of OROMEL 649 FOOD GRADE EPOXY has been demonstrated with official tests for the 5 types of existing simulants: A, B, C, D and E (D divided into D1 and D2).

These simulants represent the worst conditions for each type of food.

The tests comply with the following regulations:

  • UE 10/2011
  • UE 1245/2020
  • EC 1935/2004
  • RD 847/2011
  • UE 213/2018
  • EC 1895/2005

But what are food simulants and what are the benefits of passing their tests to achieve food epoxy certification?

According to the Regulation Code 10/2011, the general assignment of food simulants to food is as follows:

  • Food simulants A, B and C are assigned to foods that have a hydrophilic character and are able to extract hydrophilic substances. Foodstuffs such as: honey, fresh vegetables, fish, meat, fried…
  • Simulant B shall be used for foods with a pH below 4.5. Vinegar, drinks and pastes with an acid pH…
  • Simulant C should be used for alcoholic foods with an alcohol content of up to 20%, and for foods containing a significant amount of organic ingredients that make it more lipophilic. This category would include foods such as water, pulp-free juices and low-alcoholic beverages, ice cream, jams, sauces and pastes in aqueous media…
  • Food simulants D1 and D2 are assigned to foods that are lipophilic in character and are capable of extracting lipophilic substances.
  • Food simulant D1 shall be used for alcoholic foods with an alcoholic strength above 20 % and for oil in aqueous emulsions. Juices with pulp, alcoholic beverages of more than 20º, eggs, milk, yoghurt, cream…
  • Simulant D2 shall be used for foods containing free fats on the surface. This would be the case for bakery products with surface fat, chocolates, butter, fish, meat, fried foods…
  • Simulant E is intended for testing specific migration in dry foods. In this last case we find foods such as cereals, flour, pasta, pastries without surface fat, sugar, frozen foods, cocoa powder, coffee, aromatic herbs, spices…
